THE Textbook Example - 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger with SS Motto and Date. M1937 Fliegerdolch by Eickhorn of Solingen. Here's a really interesting piece that Tom Wittmann chose to do a 3 pg spread on, pgs 250-252 in his book, Exploring the Dress Daggers of the German Luftwaffe. The obverse of the plated blade features the SS Motto, “Miene Ehre ist Treue” Why? the guy may have has dual service in both the SS and Luftwaffe or been some sort of liaison. Regardless it’s very unique. To the reverse, “30. Marz 1942”. Perhaps this is a reference to a promotion, birthday, or some sort of victory. The blade rates Exc+Exc++. There is some age gray. The tip is perfect, the fit is nice and tight and the dark acid etched Eickhorn maker mark is perfectly executed! The original blue pebbled leather buffer pad remains intact. The dark airplane grey Eickhorn scabbard is beautifully detailed with all of the oak leaves, acorns and pebbling while retaining great finish. The scabbard retains excellent patina and remains dent free! The throat retaining screws are unturned. The aluminum crossguard and pommel are in fine condition. The crossguard shows excellent detail, in the eagle’s wings, chest and topside oak leaves and acorns. The ferrule is also nicely detailed. The Eickhorn heart shaped pommel is in excellent condition. It has the hand enhancing to the sides and the swastikas retain excellent guilt! The bone grip looks excellent having wee hairlines and common striations. It has the Eickhorn textbook springy wire wrap.
