A Rare & Desirable, Exclamation Mark “!” - Model 1933 Schutzstaffel Dienstdolch by RZM M7/29 - Jacobs & Co. of Solingen-Gräfrath. There is talk about these unique motted pieces being specially presented or attributed to an elite SS unit. Perhaps to distinct members of the Einsatztrupp or top graduates of the SS-Junkerschules. However, there is no documentation that supports this, it is only speculation as of now. Note: RZM M7/29 and SS Contact Number 324 were attributed to both Jacobs & Co. and Klittermann & Moog. They also shared the same etching template. Klittermann & Moog’s RZM mark is different than that of Jacobs & Co., that is why I am confident it was made by the later.
The blade on this one looks wonderful! The special acid etched “Meine Ehre Heißt Treue!” motto and “RZM M7/29” maker mark are both dark, crisp and beautifully executed. They truly provide a wonderful contrast to the bright blade. The full crossgrain is stunning as you shine it in the light. The blade is perfectly seated up against the hilt and the tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates NM. It shows runner marks, surface scratches and minor age spotting but that’s it. The steel based black painted scabbard looks good. It shows areas of the base metal along with the initial blued flash coating. A quarter of the original painted finish remains, with remnants of the thick lacquer coating. It shows scratches to the obverse and some pressure marks to the reverse. The nickel-silver scabbard fittings look good as well. The lower has a bruised ball that is slightly pushed forward. The top has verdigris underneath the hanger’s leather. All four scabbard screws remain intact, one is a replacement. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a snap. The black died hardwood grip is in excellent condition. There are bruises throughout, a wee hairline crack above the roundel, and a few flake chips to the top. The solid nickel-silver eagle is wonderfully detailed and has a perfect fit. The SS roundel retains 97%+ of its enamel and has a perfect fit. This one comes with a vertical hanger. If you look closely at the top strap where the loop is, it was a custom fit, so you can tell this has been on here forever.
This was purchased by me from the veteran’s family. He states: “These daggers and bayonets were war trophies brought back from the WWII European Theater by a cousin who served in combat there. They have been continuously in our family’s possession since that time.” This piece has never been in a collection! Incredibly desirable…
