Luftwaffe Frontflug-Spange für Jäger in Silber by G.H. Osang of Dresden. Instituted January 30, 1940, the Short-Range Day Fighter Clasp in Silver was awarded for sixty combat missions. It is constructed out of two pieces of die struck finezinc / nickel-silver that has been silver washed / black burnished and finished in a protective lacquer coating. The obverse depicts a centrally placed blackened upward pointing “flying arrow” that is surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together at the bottom with a stagnant swastika and is flanked by four round cut outs and two nine-piece oak leaf clusters. The fullback reverse is maker marked: “G. H. Osang Dresden”, shows an off-center rivet, a soldered-on round plate flatwire catch, soldered-on block hinge and coke-bottle pin. It displays wonderful detail throughout and the silver highlights and black/silver contrast is superb! It measures 3 inches wide by 1 inch tall.
