Imperial Japanese Army Officer’s M38 Visor Cap

Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) Officer’s M38 Visor Cap. Introduced in 1905 and used until the end of World War II. The visor is constructed of olive drab twill weave cotton with a red wool band and piping. The center obverse features a pinned-on gilded brass IJA five-pointed star. The front features a black patent finished visor peak with a stitched-on reinforcement edge in the same material. There is a crack to the front-center. The chinstrap is made out of a patent finished leather, with dual adjustment sliders, which is fixed to the sides with two brass embossed chrysanthemums buttons. Below the crown are four brown enamel finished ventilation grommets, two to either side. The interior is lined in a black silk/rayon type cloth material, that has a stitched-on red kanji script, likely a name. The black cloth covers the rigid white buckram crown. The edge features a black patent sweat band that has a brown bow tie to the back. The outside shows mothing throughout and the leather peak and sweatband are crazed/cracking. Overall, a nice cap.
