Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal. Instituted October 21, 1999, to recognize the contributions of all Canadian peacekeepers towards the ultimate goal of peace. It is constructed out of a die stamped ally base that has been chemically burnished. The round shaped obverse features three individuals: a woman kneeling with radio, a UN observer and an armed solider, all underneath a flying dove with an olive branch in its beak, all surrounded by “Peacekeeping Service de la Paix” with two maple leaves. The reverse displays a large maple leaf behind the Royal Cypher of Queen Elizabeth II, above “Canada” and flanked by two ten-piece laurel leaf and berry clusters. To the top is a single-toe claw mount below a maple leaf and a slotted bar that holds the green, red, white and blue ribbon. The reverse features a stitched-on steel plated bar that holds a well working pin, hinge and catch assembly. The award measures 1 7/16 inches in diameter.
