Extremely Rare, Etched Blade with Blued Panel - M1937 Fliegerdolch für Offiziere. Many factories offered custom etches to wealthier officers. These may have been purchased to commemorate a noteworthy event, an individual achievement or as a gift from a loved one. The unmarked, Emil Voos style etched blade on this one is a real treat. The etched panels are crisp, beautifully displaying the droop-tail eagle to the obverse and three differing planes flying over a small mountain village to the reverse. Both blued panels are flanked by decorative intertwining floral motifs. It has a perfect fit and sharp tip. The blade on this one rates Exc++/NM. It shows minor age spotting/grey throughout. There is some plating loss towards the top. The light brown tanned leather buffer pad remains intact. The scabbard is steel based and airplane grey finished. It shows some spotting to the edges and remains completely dent free. It depicts nice detail throughout, with the random pebbling, oak leaves and acorns. The both headless side throat retaining screw remains intact. The aluminum-alloy based burnished eagle crossguard has crisp detail throughout the eagle’s head, feathers, wings and top side etched oak leaves and acorns. The steel ferrule displays a nice oak-leaf and acorn pattern. The aluminum-alloy pommel looks excellent with the centered mobile swastika encircled by oak leaves and acorns. It also has great hand enhancing. Minor gilding remains. The plaster filled celluloid covered grip looks excellent being chip and crack free. Just the odd spot. The springy aluminum grip wire remains intact. I’ve only ever owned two blued paneled 2nd Model Luftwaffe daggers. A prized piece for any collector…
