A Luftwaffen Beobachterabzeichen Anstecknadel. The stickpin lapel variation would be privately purchased for everyday wear. Instituted January 19, 1935, the observer badge was awarded after completion of two month qualifying service, after five operational flight as observer, or if the recipient was wounded while posted as observer (prior to the completion of the other criteria). It is constructed out of a die struck nickel-silver based that has been silver washed. The obverse depicts a detailed Luftwaffe open winged eagle that is clutching a mobile swastika in its talons. The eagle is in front of a half laurel leaf half oak leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The fullback reverse features a soldered-on knurled stickpin. The face measures 7/16 of an inch wide and tall. A desirable piece.
