Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Bronze Anstecknadel. The stickpin lapel variation would be privately purchased for everyday wear. Instituted December 20, 1939, the Infantry Assault Badge was awarded to a soldier who had taken part in three assaults since January 1, 1940, had fought in the front lines, had attempted a break-in with a weapon or had been involved in combat operations on three different days. The bronze variant was awarded to machine gun companies, gun companies and anti-tank companies. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been bronze washed and chemically burnished. The oval shaped obverse depicts a rifle and bayonet below a Heer closed winged eagle clutching a mobile swastika within its talons. This is all surrounded by an acorn and oak leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The fullback reverse features a soldered-on knurled round wire stickpin. The face measures ½ inch wide by 5/8 of an inch tall.
