THE Textbook Example - A Model 1933 Schutzstaffel Dienstdolch by RZM Contract Code “SS 807/36 RZM”. This exact example is featured on pages 202 and 203 of Ralf Siegers “The Service Daggers of the SS”. SS 807/36 RZM remains an unknown maker to this date. The blade on this one looks wonderful. The acid etched “Meine Ehre Heißt Treue” motto and “SS 807/36 RZM” RZM Contract Code / date mark are both dark, crisp and beautifully executed. The crossgrain is gorgeous, running the full length of the blade. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is nice and tight. The blade rates NM. It has minor age spotting throughout along with the typical runner marks. The sheet metal based black enamel painted scabbard looks great. It retains the majority of its original painted finish and remains completely dent-free. It shows spidering and paint loss which reveals its base metal, mostly towards the reverse. The nickel-silver based scabbard fittings look excellent. Due to the age wear, on both the fittings and scabbard body, I’d bet this had a vertical hanger on it originally. The ball has a wee bruise to its bottom, yet retains a nice round profile. All four screws remain intact. The scabbard to hilt fit is perfect. The solid nickel-silver crossguards are in excellent condition. The crossguard to grip fits are perfect. The black died hardwood grip looks great. There are typical bumps and bruises throughout along with one right below the eagle. The nickel-silver eagle has beautiful detail and a perfect fit. The SS roundel retains 96%+ of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. Always nice to get one from the Textbook…
