M36 Type II / B2 - Schutzstaffel Kettendolch für Offiziere. The blade on this one looks great. The acid etched “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” motto is dark, crisp and provides a great contrast to the bright blade. The crossgrain is looks wonderful as you shine it in the light, and is easily visible all the way from the hilt to tip. The tip and fit are both perfect. There is no maker mark and that is exactly how these were issued from the factory. The blade rates Exc++. There is age grey, spotting and minor scratches throughout, along with visible runner marks. The sheet metal based black anodized scabbard body on this one looks great. It shows minor oxidization spots throughout. There is a 5mm bruise to both the front and back. The steel based, nickel-silver plated fittings all look great. The ball retains a perfectly round shape. All six screws remain intact. The chain is the Type II / B2 variation being all steel, with the correct “SS” proof mark to the reverse of the first upper link. The chain links show wonderful detail to the skulls and SS runes. The wootans-knot looks excellent. The clip continues to work well. The zinc-alloy based, nickel-silver plated crossguards are in excellent shape. The black hardwood grip on this one has been professionally restored, it had a big chip. It shows some horizontal lines running throughout. It shows two cracks. The copper eagle is nicely detailed. The SS roundel retains 97%+ of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. This piece is quite unique as it has two ball head nails to the bottom of the crossguard. Clearly the original owner was an officer authorized to wear the portepee with his dagger. He put them in to assist in securing a portepee exactly how he wants.
