1. Stufe Nahkampfspange in Bronze by Funcke & Brüninghaus of Lüdenscheid (2nd Pattern - 3.2). Instituted November 25, 1942, the Bronze I Stage Close Combat Clasp was awarded for 15 close combat battles. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc-alloy base that has been bronze washed and brennlack finished. The obverse depicts a crossed model 24 grenade and K98 bayonet with oak leaves, acorns and lined rays all beneath a German national eagle. The reverse of the badge correctly displays an upside-down “F & B L” maker mark, along with an outlined soldered-on round plate soldered-on flatwire catch, an outlined and soldered-on block hinge and steel coke bottle pin. The badge depicts beautiful details throughout with the correct flaw. The zinc has absorbed all of the finish. It measures 3 7/8 inches wide by 1 inch tall. The black steel backplate is missing and I will include a smaller post-war steel backplate should you wish to glue it on.
