A Nordfront-Kreuz. Awarded to German soldiers who fought against Soviet troops at the Eismeerfront in Finland. It is a multi-piece construction, made out of a die stamped nickel-silver base that has been silver washed, gold gilded and contain multi-colored enamel work. The vaulted obverse features both the Finnish and German national flags on a pole above a red shield that has the Finnish rampant lion on it. This is below “1941-43” and above “Pohjoisrintama-Die Nordfront” (The North Front), on a white background, all of which is encircled by a dual gold oak leaf wreath, that is tied together on the bottom. This is in front of a blue Teutonic style cross and a swastika with Finnish military campaigns listed on each arm which read: “Petsamo”, “Salla”, “Kiestinki” and “Uhtua”. The fullback reverse shows two rivets, a centrally placed male screw device that holds an unmarked round female screw plate. It measures 1 3/8 inches wide by 1 3/8 inches high. One of 12 variations to collect. An attractive award in excellent condition!
