Personalized - Ground Röhm SA Dagger by Eickhorn

So rare to find a personalized SA, here's a great example by Eickhorn! The blade on this one remains in nice shape. The obverse is very clean. The removal of the blade inscription is a back-yard job. I always prefer these to the so often seen factory ground jobs. Simply because we know for fact that these we issued and made it into the hands of the actual SA guy. My personal theory is that most of the factory done examples never did see an SA guy till after they were ground. Regardless this blade is stunning with traces of the original inscription remaining. This one rates a Mint-.The brown matte anodized scabbard is worn, with just traces of the original finish remaining. There are some small impression you can find to the reverse. The solid nickel fittings are lightly worn. They look great. All of the screws remain intact. The ball is near perfect. The scabbard / crossguard fit looks great. The reverse of the lower fitting is Jeweler personalized, "Carl Schmitt". The early distinctive grip shows wear and a few tiny flakes at the top obverse crossgard fit. I really like how the grain sets off the proud hi-neck eagle that Eickhorn used on these 1st issue daggers. The grip / crossguard fits are good. The roundel is worn yet retains 100% of its enamel.

Ok, so who is this Scmitt guy anyways? I've done some research into this name. The guy who consistently comes up is here Schmitt being a leading theorist of the day. Lots to be said in the above link but this in particular caught my eye, "in June 1934, Schmitt was appointed editor-in-chief of the Nazi newspaper for lawyers, the Deutsche Juristen-Zeitung ("German Jurists' Journal").[15] In July, he published in it "The Leader Protects the Law (Der Führer schützt das Recht)", a justification of the political murders of the Night of the Long Knives with the authority of Hitler as the "highest form of administrative justice (h?chste Form administrativer Justiz)". Interesting that he is theory contributed to the Night of the Long Knives. Ok, for you nay-sayers out there, here's what I would say, "Yes, Schmitt is a popular name in Germany and Yes, it could be another Carl Schmitt who qualified for an early Rohm dagger". Overall, a beautiful piece that shows real history!

Update 02/14/25. I just had some communication with a previous owner who shared: "Regarding this dagger. Just fyi, I owned this piece for many years. Purchased from Tom Johnson at least 40 years ago. It appears to be in exactly the same configuration as it was when I purchased same. I traded it to another collector perhaps 20 years ago. Again in this same fit, to include the hanger. The dagger is also mentioned as far as the name in one of the appendix sections in Tom's Collecting The Edged Weapons ..... Volume III (Page 354, #13.) Just some background that I thought you might find interesting."
