Early, Numbered - 1st Model (1934/35) Luftwaffe Fliegerdolch/Borddolch by SMF of Solingen. The blade and scabbard have matching numbers: “256”. The plated, double edged, spear point 12 inch long blade on this one looks excellent. The etched seated king “SMF Solingen” maker mark and stamped proof mark are both beautifully executed. The plating gives it a nice mirror like finish. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit remains nice and tight. The blade rates Exc++/NM. It shows scratches mostly towards the tip and age throughout. The blue pebbled leather buffer pad remains in place. The scabbard is constructed out of a steel sheet metal base that has been covered in a blue textured leather. The leather is in good condition. The seam has some leather loss. The solid nickel-silver fittings look excellent. All of the five screws remain intact. The chain is solid nickel-silver with two steel aluminum connectors. The chain consists of 9 top ringlets and has 14 lower, connected to a well working early unmarked clip. The crossguard and pommel top are in wonderful condition with separately inserted brass sun wheel swastikas. The grip is wood based and covered in a blue leather. It only has the odd scuff. The triple nickel-silver wire wrap remains completely intact. A wonderful early example!
