Rare - Model 1940 - Кортик военно-морской образца 1940 года СССР (Без кнопочный) by ИМЗ 1945 (Златоустовского Инструментального Комбината - Zlatoust Arms Factory - Zlatoust Instrumental Combine). They were issued all command personnel of the Navy as well as flag officers, naval aviation, coastal defense and naval service engineers. The double-edged blade on this one looks great. The etched maker marked: “ИМЗ 1945” and reverse dagger number “NO 22460” are both nicely executed. It has a great mirror like finish. The fit remains nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point. The tang is marked: “5”. The blade rates Exc++/NM. It shows minor age spotting and surface scratches throughout. The black textured leather buffer pad remains intact. The scabbard is wood based and covered in a black leather. It shows typical age scuffs, yet retains 99% coverage and a near perfect seam. The three gilded brass scalloped fittings look great, each being secured with one rivet to the reverse. The obverse of the top fitting features a fouled anchor entwined with a rope. The reverse of the top fitting features an image of a sailboat. The scabbard sits tightly up against the hilt. The recurved crossguard, lower sleeve, top sleeve (with the state emblem of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) and top screw on pommel cap (with the five-pointed star) are all brass based and gilded. The yellow plastic grip is in excellent condition. A very rare find.
