A Model 1934 - Sturmabteilung Ehrendolch by Ernst Pack & Sohne of Solingen. Ernst Röhm Honour Daggers were granted to members of the SS and SA who either had interrupted service since December 31, 1931, or those who transferred from the Hitler Youth prior to that time (February 22, 1934 - II Order Nr. 2869). After the Night of the Long Knives, Ernst Röhm was declared a “traitor” and removal of the inscription was mandated (July 4, 1934 - II Daily Record Nr. 7566).
The blade on this one looks great. The “In herzlicher kameradschaft Ernst Röhm” inscription is back yard removed. Only traces of the original inscription remains. The “Alles für Deutschland” motto and “E. P. & S. Solingen” maker mark are both dark, crisp and beautifully executed. The crossgrain shines quite nicely in the light. The fit and tip are both perfect. The blade rates Exc++/NM. It shows scratches along with minor spotting throughout. The textbook E. P. & S. style SA scabbard is steel based and brown anodized. Typical age. It remains completely dent free. The patinated solid nickel scabbard fittings look excellent. The ball has a bruise to the bottom and all four screws remain intact. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect. The patinaed solid nickel silver scabbard fitting, again textbook style E. Pack, look excellent as well, matching the scabbard fittings perfectly. The reverse of the lower crossguard is stamped “Mi” (Mitte). The light brown grained hardwood grip is Textbook E. Pack. It is in wonderful shape. The reverse shows the odd flake chips to the base. The solid nickel eagle has excellent detail and a perfect fit. The SA roundel retains 99%+ of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. This Textbook E. Pack has never been in a collection.
