United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Second Mahratta War and Gurkha War - Army of India Medal 1799-1826, 3 clasps: Battle of Deig, Capture of Deig, Nepaul – awarded to Captain Richard Langslow of the 22nd Native Light Infantry. Langslow is confirmed on the Medal Roll for all three clasps. Instituted March 21, 1851, the Army of India Medal (AIM) was a retrospective campaign award donated by the Honourable East India Company to survivors of various actions between 1803–1826, where the respective clasp(s) were assumed. A total of 4,500 AIMs were awarded. It is constructed out of a die stamped silver base. The round shaped obverse bears the effigy of Queen Victoria wearing a diadem flanked by “Victoria Regina”. The reverse displays Victory holding a laurel branch in her right hand and a wreath in her left next to a lotus flower, trophy of arms and a palm tree. This is all below: “To The Army of India” and above: “1799-1826” “W.W.” (designer William Wyon). The rim of the medal is officially impressed “Captn. R. Langslow, 22nd N.I.”. To the top is a four-toe claw mount with an ornate swiveling suspension that attaches all three clasps. This medal originally came with a red ribbon, which I will include. I have replaced it with a modern but correct ribbon. There is a scratch that runs lengthways through the entire award. I am sure this would be less noticeable or disappear should you wish to clean it. The medal measures 36mm in diameter. I have included some of Captain Richard Langslows history to the bottom. A rare piece I am happy to offer the collecting community.
