A Model 1933 Sturmabteilung Dienstdolch by F. Herder A.S. of Solingen. The blade on this one looks great. The acid etched “Alles für Deutschland” motto and Keys of Heaven “F. Herder A.S. Solingen” maker mark are both dark crisp and beautifully executed. The crossgrain looks great running the full length of the blade. The fit is nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates Exc++. There is minor spotting/age grey throughout and heavy scratches. There are also fine scratches to all the fittings. It is likely the previous owner scratches/cleaned the blade and fittings, perhaps with a steel wool. This grip and scabbard body are almost painted black or it could be a very dark lacquer. This is a common characteristic seen with F. Herder. The sheet metal based brown anodized and darkened scabbard is in good condition. It has oxidization spotting throughout. It remains dent free. The ball remains perfectly round and all four screws remain intact. The scabbard / crossguard fit is perfect. The reverse of the lower crossguard is Gau stamped “Om” (Ostmark), a rare Gau mark. The dark hardwood grip is well worn. There are cracks and bumps throughout. It has perfect fits. The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed. The SA roundel has a perfect fit and retains 90%+ of its enamel. A unique piece with some interesting characteristics.
