DRL-Sportabzeichen in Silber by Wernstein Jena of Lobstädt. Instituted July 1, 1937, the silver grade DRL badge was awarded to men and women between the ages of 18-32 who passed the national fitness test for a total of eight years or individuals between the ages of 32-40 who passed the fitness test during a 12-month period. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc-alloy base that has been silver washed and lacquered. The oval shaped obverse depicts a centrally placed “DRL” in stylized letters which is surrounded by an oak leaf wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a ribbon and mobile swastika. The reverse correctly displays: a soldered-on block hinge, a soldered-on round plate flat wire catch and flat wire pin. It is also marked “DRGM 35269” and “Wernstein Jena”. It holds only traces of silver wash, mostly to the hardware. It measures 1 ½ inches wide by 1 7/8 inches tall.
