A Deutsche Reichssportabzeichen für Leibesübungen in Gold by Wernstein Jena of Lobstädt. Instituted July 1, 1937, the gold grade DRL Sports Badge was awarded to anyone, who then held the silver grade, is over 40 years old and passed five parts of national fitness test within a 12-month period. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been gold gilded. The oval shaped obverse depicts a centrally placed “DRL” in gold stylized letters which is surrounded by a gold oak leaf wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a ribbon and swastika. The reverse correctly displays a; soldered-on block hinge, soldered-on round wire catch and flat wire pin. It is also marked “Wernstein Jena” and “DRGM 35269” It continues to retain beautiful details and gilt. It measures 1 ½ inches wide by 1 7/8 inches tall.
