Third Pattern, Smooth Border - “Old” Silver RADwJ (Reichsarbeitsdienst der weiblichen Jugend) Arbeitsmaid Rank Brooch by Deschler & Sohn of München 1941. The third pattern brooches are further differentiated by their border: smooth, ribbed and an intertwined rope pattern. It is constructed out of a die stamped nickel-silver base that has been silver washed and burnished. The round shaped obverse features the RADwJ emblem (a mobile swastika above two sheaths of wheat), above a pebbled background surrounded by a smooth border. The hollow back reverse is marked with: a decorative “D” (maker mark), “41” (1941) and “RADwJ” (within a downward pointing triangle). It also has a horizontally soldered-on rectangular pin, hinge and catch assembly. It measures approximately 1 3/4 inches in diameter. Multiple variations to collect!
