THE Textbook Example - M1937 Fliegerdolch für Offiziere by Alcoso of Solingen. For the guys afraid of etched blades you can rest well at night with this one is featured on pgs 244 & 245 of Whitty's bible on Luftwaffe daggers. Often these blades were made in advance and the center panel left blank. The frosted etch was a special order intended for privately purchase for a well-heeled officer who would have the blank center panel personalized. In this care the center panel is blank. The etched pattern blade on this one is wonderful. The dark etch is crisp, correctly displaying the Luftwaffe eagle flanked by laurel leaf and berry sprigs in a intertwined floral motif. The blade is marked with the early ALCSO scales mark. The blade on this one rates NM. The buffer pad is intact. The undented ALCOSO scabbard is steel based and airplane grey plated showing period wear. It depicts nice detail throughout, with the random pebbling, oak leaves and acorns. There are some scratches to the reverse. The Alcoso burnished eagle crossguard has crisp detail throughout the eagle’s head, feathers, wings and top side embossed oak leaves and acorns. The steel ferrule displays a nice oak-leaf pattern. The Alcoso pommel looks excellent with centered mobile swas's encircled by oak leaves and acorns. The deep orange trylon grip has an old hairline to the top pommel fit. It is one tone darker to the obverse. The copper double twist grip wire remains intact. Included is an Alcoso tag and a nice portepee.
