VERY Lazy - E. Röhm SA Honor Dagger by E. Pack

Clearly accuracy was not this mans strong suit. VERY Lazy - Model 1934 - Sturmabteilung Ehrendolch mit Widmung by Ernst Pack & Sohne of Solingen. Ernst Röhm Honour Daggers were granted to members of the SS and SA who either had interrupted service since December 31, 1931, or those who transferred from the Hitler Youth prior to that time. After the Night of the Long Knives, Röhm was declared a “traitor” and removal of the inscription was mandated. To have the full inscription was against Hitler’s decree, consequently making this dagger an incredibly rare and desirable piece among the collecting community… The blade on this one looks to me like someone made a halfhearted attempt to comply with the law requiring the removal of Röhm's name. Anyways it was a poor effort as 95%+ of the name remains as does 100% of of the acid etched “In herzlicher kameradschaft” inscription, “Alles für Deutschland” motto and “E. P. & S. Solingen” maker mark are all dark, crisp and beautifully executed. There are some fine scratches around the name you can find if you turn this just so in the sun. It also has a perfect tip and fit. The blade rates Exc++. It has been cleaned, has minor age and runner marks. The steel based brown anodized scabbard is in good condition. It is completely dent free. The solid nickel scabbard fittings look good. The lower suffer some hits and the ball is banged in. All four screws remain intact. The scabbard to crossguard fit is good. The solid nickel-silver crossguards match the scabbard fittings in color and patina. The reverse has been period ground down. The grinder also removed some wood in his efforts. So "Why?" you ask. It's anybody's guess but my guess would be there was some sort of personalization and the owner did not want this traced back to him in the future. I've seen this before. Much of this stuff was traded to Allied soldiers for food or cigarettes post-war. There is no recognizable Gau mark. The crossguard / grip fits are perfect. The light brown grained hardwood grip is in good condition. It has hairline cracks to the lower reverse left corner and a single crack to the other side. The solid nickel eagle has excellent detail and has a perfect fit. The SA roundel retains 99%+ of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. These are incredibly hot right now and it is getting more and more difficult to find them. Your opportunity to purchase a beautiful, highly desired SA full Röhm dagger.
