Model 1939 - Postschutz Dolch für Führer by Paul Weyersberg & Co. of Solingen. The acid etched oval “Paul Weyersberg & Co. Solingen” wreathed broad sword manufacturers marking looks great. It shows beautiful crossgrain, easily visible as you turn it in the sun. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is nice and tight. The blade rates Exc++. It shows minor age grey throughout and a couple wee rough spots to the edge. The black leather buffer pad remains intact. The steel based black enamel painted scabbard is in excellent condition. Typical paint chips from the chain, I would say the paint is better than 97%. It has some age spidering. The three nickel-silver plated scabbard fittings remain in nice condition the lower has a small impression to the reverse. They are all tightly secured with all five original screws. The nickel-silver chain is complete ending at the correct nickel-silver plated, zinc based “DRGM” marked well working clip. As is typical with these clips the body has expanded slightly from the spring pushing on it for the past 80 years, this allows the movable part to move past the body. you can push it back but the zinc will eventually let it slip out again. So this is so common on these it's actually a sign of authenticity! The scabbard sits nicely up against the hilt. The crossguard and pommel are solid nickel-silver and plated. The two enameled swastikas are in perfect condition. The bottom of the crossguard is stamped “DRP” (Deutsches Reichpost) and is numbered “229” (serial number). The chip and crack-free hardwood grip is boiled and died black. These grips notoriously crack and chip, as the wood expands and contracts with humidity throughout the years. The correct DRP eagle emblem is pinned proud to the obverse. The pommel looks great.
