SS Partial Röhm Honor Dagger by Böker

A Model 1934 - Schutzstaffel Ehrendolch mit Widmung by Böker of Solingen. E. Röhm Honour Daggers were granted to members of the SS and SA who either had interrupted service since December 31st 1931 or those who transferred from the Hitler Youth prior to that time (February 22 1934 - II Order Nr. 2869). 9900 were allocated for eligible members of the SS. After the Night of the Long Knives, Ernst Röhm was declared a “traitor” and removal of the inscription was mandated (July 4th 1934 - II Daily Record Nr. 7566). To have a partial inscription makes this dagger rare and desirable! The blade on this one has been cleaned hard. The acid etched “In herzlicher kameradschaft Ernst Röhm” inscription is partially removed, “Meine Ehere Heißt Treue” motto and “Böker Solingen” maker mark are all nicely executed and feature that Böker type finish. The the blade length is 216mm so it's been shortened by 4mm, (about the width of 4 dimes) and the fit is nice and tight. sounds bad it is not, if I hadn't measured I wouldn't have known. The blade rates an Exc. It shows surface scratches and age throughout. The steel based period repainted scabbard has some dents the worse being to the upper obverse. It has been painted with that heavy glossy lacquer we see so often on period repaints. The scalloped solid nickel-silver scabbard fittings look good. The ball has a tiny kiss to the bottom and retains it's original shape. All four screws remain intact. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a snap! The solid nickel-silver crossguards match the scabbard fittings perfectly. The reverse of the lower cross guard is district stamped “I” (Berlin). The black hardwood grip shows hits to the reverse like some kid used the grip to pound in a nail. The obverse has a couple hairlines. It has nice fits to the crossguards, as you would expect on these early pieces. The solid nickel silver eagle retains beautiful detail and has a perfect fit. The SS runes retains 99%+ of its enamel and has perfect fit. A rare piece with a lazy-man's partial inscription by a desired maker!
