Kuban Shield
A Heer Ärmelschild Kuban. The Kuban Arm Shield was awarded to those who fought to preserve the bridgeheads in the Kuban region from February 1943 until they were abandoned in October. It is constructed out of die stamped steel base that has been bronze washed and attached with edge tabs. The field gray wool and steel sheet metal plate, with a glued on black paper backing is missing. The shield shaped obverse depicts an open winged national eagle clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons, surrounded by “1943” (19 ‐ left, 43 ‐ right) and above a bannered “Kuban” and a jagged rectangular line separating “Krymskaja” (left), “Lagunen” (top-right) and “Novorossiysk” (bottom-right). It measures approximately 60 mm tall by 52mm wide.
