M39 Dolch für Staatsbeamte by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. Here we have the most elegant dagger made during the Third Reich! The Eickhorn version of the G.O. dagger is prized by collectors as they feature a bigger up-sweep of the wings and superior manufacture. I would say only 20% of the GO's made were by Eickhorn. The blade on this piece looks good. The dark and crisp, acid etched "Original Eickhorn Solingen" maker mark is beautifully executed. The crossgrain remains visible. The blade on this one rates in at NM. It has most of the crossgrain remaining. The original leather buffer pad remains intact. The scabbard is a beautiful, dent-free, steel based and nickel-silver example. The scabbard body depicts nice details with a random pebbled body and two oak leaf bands. The throat retaining screw is unturned. The scabbard snugly fits up against the hilt. The crossguard is tombak based and nickel-silver plated. It depicts a regal eagle with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons. It wonderfully displays details throughout the eagles head, chest, wings, and thick wreathed swastika. This is nice all matching patina and no tombac peeking through. The glamorous eagle head pommel, screw cap, ferrule and front side plate are all tombak based and nickel-silver plated. These components all hold together two uncracked and unchipped mother of pear grip plates. All of the exterior components match in plating, patina, age and color. Internally they and numbered 40. The top screw has been turned. Overall this is a real beauty with matching patina that wonderfully shows off hand-fitted German craftsmanship!
