The hilt of this lion head sword is all nicely silver plated with burnished backgrounds. The lion head has lots of hand enhancing to his whiskers brow and mane which runs partially down the backstrap. The cat is the type without glass eyes. The backstrap features lots of nice detailed floral designs and the P guard is a flat bow it flows through a heart shaped langet on both sides which is also plain and ends with a teardrop quillon. The grip appears to be a celluloid over wood and has a wee crack to the upper left that you will have to look hard to find. The grip is tightly wrapped with triple twisted brass wire the center being of larger proportion. The scabbard is straight and shows a good dent towards the drag. The double fullered blade is a 32 inch example with a bit of spotting towards the tip. On both sides of the blade is the etching with the "In Treue Fest" being the Bavarian slogan. Nicely finishing this is the correct Bavarian Officer portepee.
