Mismatched Luftwaffen Schwert by David Malsch of Steinbach. First thing you notice here is that the sword itself is mated to a late period aluminum scabbard. When, where who IDK. Picking up the sword these early solid nickel examples are noticeably heavier than the later aluminum based examples. The double edged plated blade on this one is 26 inches long with a single partial fuller. The engraved maker mark looks great. The fit is nice and tight. The blade has been used hard with lots of nicks and bends towards the end. I have not tried to straighten this. The leather buffer pad remains intact. The blue, pebbled, leather scabbard body remains in good condition with 98% leather coverage! The aluminum scabbard fittings remain dent free. The four screws remain intact. The scabbard sits perfectly up against the hilt. The back patined hilt fittings are solid nickel-silver with separately inserted brass swastikas. This method of creating the golden swastikas was quickly abandon for faster less labor intensive methods. The edge of the pommel looks great with decorative hand enhanced oak leaves and acorns. The grip leather has a few light pressure marks. Both springy brass grip wires remain tightly intact. The grip shows wear and some leather loss. A great restoration project.
