Model 1940 - Waffen-SS Feldbluse für einen SS-Obersturmführer der Infanterie. Constructed out of a tailor-made high-grade field-grey twill weave tricot/wool blend. It features a five-button front with four pleated pockets with scalloped flaps and French cuffs. There are loops on the left breast for combat awards. Above the left breast pocket are loops for a close combat clasp and a small ribbon bar. The second buttonhole features a stitched-on 2nd class Iron Cross ribbon. Insignia consists of piped runic and rank tabs, a pair of infantry shoulder boards each with two gold pips attached and a hand-embroidered officer quality sleeve eagle. The tunic shows a modest amount of even wear, mostly around the top of the collar and inside armpits. There are two moth nips to the mid-right arm and several above the left sleeve. There is no name or tailor tags. A beautiful example. Extremely rare. Dutch made. Shoulder to shoulder is 45cm, a sleeve length of 63cm and a 66cm spine length.
The previous owner had purchased this from a Robert Joshlin “Josh” H.R. on November 29, 1999. When he sold the tunic, he had written down what Josh had told him on two pieces of paper. I will include this:
Recovered by Jewish Vet who later owned a Ford Dealership in Ptld OC about 35 years ago – sold the tunic @ mothers Request. Tunic was secured at Dachau with other cloth insignia (600 Cuff titles). Tunic was originally purchased by Co Reichaus who sold it to Jossi, a Portland Policeman, who held it for 15 years before trading the tunic to “Josh” Joshlin for a Colt revolving rifle - neither Reichaus, Josi or Joshlin modified the tunic which is “as recovered”.
If this letter is indeed correct, this tunic has gone from the original SS Obersturmführer, to a Jewish Vet (Ford Dealer), to Reichaus, to Josi (Policeman), to “Josh”, to the previous collector and now us.
