SS Oberscharführer Overcoat of Standarte 41 “Bayreuth”
Allgemeine-SS Oberscharführer Mantel der SS-Fuss-Standarte “41” (Bayreuth) by RZM 55. Constructed out of a tailored black wool. The obverse features a double-breasted opening with two rows of six sewn-on aluminum pebbled buttons that are all marked to the underside: “OLC”, “36/38” (Overhoff & Cie., Lüdenscheid 1938), “RZM”, “SS”. There are two angled waist pockets with scalloped closure flaps. The open collar has intertwined black rayon and silver aluminum twist cord piping. Right collar tab has the SS-Fuss-Standarte “41” (Bayreuth) that is hand-embroidered in silver-aluminum thread on black wool backing with intertwined silver-aluminum and black rayon twisted cord piping. Left rank collar tab has two aluminum rank pips (Oberscharführer) on black wool cloth backing with intertwined silver-aluminum and black rayon twisted cord piping. Both had one stitch removed to allow for the lacquered buckram underside to be viewed. The collar has hook/eye closures and a cloth tab. Its underside has cog wheel buttons. The single shoulder board has four twist aluminum/black rayon cords on black wool backing, hand-applied to base of board, retained with aluminum pebbled button. The reverse has a rear black wool waist belt that has two sewn-on aluminum pebbled buttons that are all marked to the underside: “OLC”, “36/38” (Overhoff & Cie., Lüdenscheid 1938), “RZM”, “SS”. There is a lower vertical vented rear slit with four sewn-on aluminum pebbled buttons that are all marked to the reverse: “RZM 155/37 SS” (F. W. Assmann & Sohne, Lüdenscheid 1937). The sleeves have French style cuffs. The left arm has a standard machine applied SS armband. The inside is lined in black cotton and black rayon to the sleeves. There are reinforced belt ramp openings. There is a single inside pocket with a stitched-on black oil cloth tag, which reads: “Mantel SS. RZM SS Hersteller: ‘55’ Reichszeugmeisterei der NSDAP. Hr. A ‘028194’”. The spine of the reverse is marked in white “45/129 98/86 47/66” above a bordered “VA 1938”. There is also an pearl white maker mark to the left hand side which reads: “FMS F. W. Schmidt, Guben” and a bordered “N.S.D.A.P SS RZM SS Mantel-Tuch”. The previous owner purchased this on August 23, 1993. The condition is superb.
