The is the exact “2nd Model Luftwaffe Officer’s Dagger Complete with Damascus Blade by the Tiger Firm in Solingen” featured on page 104 of “Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich Volume VII” by LTC (Ret.) Thomas M. Johnson.
THE Textbook Example - M1937 Fliegerdolch für Offiziere mit Damastklinge (Carl Wester) by Tiger (Tigerwerk Lauterjung & Co.) of Solingen. The blade on this one is gorgeous. The Damascus blade is the rosebud patterned with evident divisions throughout. The gold gilt “Tiger Solingen” maker mark is rare and beautifully executed. The fit is nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point. The tang is clearly marked: “Damascener C. W. 3” (Damascus smith, Carl Wester, pattern Nr. 3). The blade on this one rates Mint-. One of the best Damascus blades I’ve owned. The dark brown leather buffer pad remains intact. The steel-based airplane grey scabbard looks excellent. It depicts beautiful details throughout with the random pebbling, oak leaves and acorns. The aluminum bands look wonderful with detailed hand enhancing throughout. The two side throat retaining screws remain intact. The burnished aluminum Luftwaffe eagle crossguard has beautiful details to the chest, wings and top side embossed oak leaves and acorns. The steel ferrule and pommel look excellent as well. The celluloid over grip looks excellent. The springy bullion wire wrap remains tightly intact. The original portepee comes included. This was purchased from Johnson on August 5, 1987.
