A Luftwaffe Frontflug-Spange für Transportfliger in Bronze by Friedrich Orth of Wein. Instituted November 19, 1941, the Transport and Glider Clasp in Bronze was and awarded for 30 operational sorties. It is constructed out of two pieces of die struck nickel-silver/zinc alloy that has been bronze washed/chemically blackened. The obverse depicts a centrally placed blackened open winged Luftwaffe eagle, clutching a swastika in one of its talons. The eagle is surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The wreathed eagle is flanked by four round cut outs and two nine-piece oak leaf clusters. The full back reverse shows a central hollow rivet, a soldered-on steel flatwire catch, soldered-on steel sheet metal hinge and steel fluted pin. They all remain in working well condition. The finish is lost to time. It measures 3 inches wide by 1 inch tall. Verdict is still out on the maker of this one. Most tend to believe it is F. Orth or FLL and I’ve also heard Gustav Brehmer.
