A Model 1934 - Schutzstaffel Ehrendolch mit Widmung by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. SS Himmler Daggers were presented to service members of the schutzstaffel who took part in “The Night of the Long Knives” and later to those who displayed unquestionable loyalty to Reichsleiter Heinrich Himmler. The prestigious blade on this one is gorgeous. The acid etched “Meine Ehere Heißt Treue” motto, “In Herzlicher Freundschaft, H. Himmler” inscription and smooth tail “Carl Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark are all dark, crisp and beautifully executed. They provide a wonderful contrast to the bright blade. The crossgrain runs the entire length of the blade and is easily visible as you shine it in the light. The tip comes to a perfect point and the blade to crossguard fit is perfect. The blade rates Mint-. There is only the slightest spotting and typical runner marks. The scabbard is the textbook style for Himmler examples. It is steel based, black anodized and has a heavily lacquered finish. It shows two small areas of oxidization spotting to the reverse. It also holds a very nice lacquered finish and remains completely dent free. The textbook-toned solid nickel-silver scalloped scabbard fittings look excellent. The ball remains perfectly round. All four screws remain intact. The solid nickel-silver crossguards look great. It looks as though verdigris has been cleaned off especially towards all the edges and around the “4” marked bench mark. The black died hardwood grip looks great. It shows flake chips to the lower reverse and obverse top, some pressure marks and a few minor cracks. The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed and has a perfect fit. The SS runes roundel retains 97%+ of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. This piece was previously sold by Thomas Johnson on January 4, 1985. For those of us who know, these are the most sought-after SS dagger on the market. Collectors contact me once about every three months asking if I have one. If you’ve been in the market, my recommendation is don’t hesitate. A quality piece.
