Transitional - Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by Hartkopf & Co. of Solingen 1938. The blade on this one looks great. The acid etched “Blut und Ehre!” motto, two devils heads “Hartkopf & Co. Solingen” maker mark and “RZM M.7/40/38.” mark are all fine, light and speckled. It has a solid fit and a perfect tip. The blade rates Exc++. It has been lightly cleaned making the etching lighter than factory finished-it does look better in hand. It also shows age grey and scratches throughout along with one nick to the cutting edge. The original black leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The steel based black enamel painted scabbard looks excellent. It shows spidering throughout yet retains 99% paint coverage and remains completely dent free. The folded over black leather strap retains all of its rivets and the snap continues to work well. It has two scabbard runners yet the posterior has come off the retaining rivet and is shoved to the back. It still fits in there perfectly and you wouldn’t know unless you looked. The hilt is constructed out of a cast iron base that has been nickel-silver plated. The plating remains 98%+ intact. The two black checkered bakelite grip plates are in perfect condition and secured with two solid nickel-silver grip rivets. To the center obverse of the grip is a large HJ diamond which retains 99%+ enamel. Overall, it’s a nice piece.
