German WWII > Cloth > Shoulder Boards >
Second pattern, sew-on type - Schutzpolizei Wachtmeister Schulterstücke (c.1936-45). The sew-on type shoulder boards were introduced July 1936, along with the new uniforms. The Schutzpolizei performed police functions for cities and larger towns. They are constructed out of a rigid pressed cardboard base, that is covered in a bright green cotton cloth to the backing, which is covered to the obverse in four white/brown strings that are covered in flatwire and brown rayon thread. The obverse features a dual, outer edge of bright silver/aluminum Russian braid, with evenly spaced interwoven brown “V”s, encompassing a dual inner dark brown braid, all mounted on a green wool base. There is a hole to the base for the button. The top has white thread where it would have been stitched to a uniform. They each measure 1 3/8 inches wide by 4 ½ inches long. Purchased from the veteran’s family.
