A Kriegsverdienstmedaille und Urkunde 1939. Instituted October 18, 1939, the War Merit Medal 1939 was awarded to recognize outstanding service by civilians in connection with the war effort (primarily those working in war factories). It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been bronze washed. The round obverse features an embossed 1st class war merit cross without swords. The reverse reads: “Für Kriegs-Verdienst 1939” (for outstanding services in war 1939). To the top is a soldered loop and ring which holds 6 inches of red, white and black ribbed rayon ribbon. The award measures 1 ¼ inches in diameter. Acompanying the award is the recipients award document. It is constructed out of pressed paper with black ink, a stamp and signature. It was awarded January 30, 1942 to a Rahmenlöter Andreas Beer. There is one horizontal and one vertical fold crease. It measures 8 ¼ inches wide by 11 ¾ inches tall. A nice assembly.
