Great Britian/Canada, WWI - PH (Phenate Hexamine) Helmet / Gas Mask Hood with a late-1930s/1940s added MSA (Mine Safety Appliances Co.) Comfo Respirator BM-2101 (1935 patent). It is constructed out of a canvas twill weave cotton base that has been stitched together. Attached to the face are; two glass lenses with non-magnetic alloy rims (calcified), above two large round aluminum perforated respirator filter covers (they can screw on and off) which also has the black straps (the right is broken), d-loop, buckle and hook riveted to the reverses, and a mouth piece / “tit” with period tape wrapped around it. The cloth is worn with age, rust marks, holes and tears throughout. The interior features the black rubber flange respirator mouthpiece that is marked: “MSA Comfo Respirator BM-2101”. It measures 24 ½ inches long 16 ¾ inches wide. The added respirator is non-textbook for the hood. These respirators were used by miners and was likely retrofit by an scared preper civilian. I cannot confirm and it remains somewhat of a mystery. Either way this “The goggle-eyed booger with the tit” is very rare and highly sought after.
