SA Sports Badge in Silver by E. Schneider

Second Pattern (1935-1939) - SA-Sportabzeichen in Silber by E. Schneider of Lüdenscheid. Instituted November 28, 1933, the SA Sports Badge in Silver was a service award (as opposed to a sports badge) awarded to those whose receipt was tied to regular repetitive exercises, similar to a sports instructor. It is constructed out of a die stamped steel base that has been silvered and burnished. The obverse depicts an upright vertical broad sword, in front of a mobile swastika, which is surrounded by an eight-piece laurel leaf wreath that is tied together at both sides. The semi-hollow back reverse shows the stamped outline and has the second pattern inscription (1935-1939): “Eigentum D. S.A. Sportabzeiche Hauptstelle” (Property of the SA Sport Badge Head Department) and is maker marked “E. Schneider Lüdenscheid”. The bronze pin, hinge and catch assembly are all in well working condition. It measures 1 13/16 inches wide by 2 5/16 inches tall. The finish is very dark.
