THE Textbook Example - “Big Brother” - 28 1/4-inch Deutsche Reichsbahn Adler (Hoheitzeichen) by PS - Bernard Pinter of Schwelm. Introduced January 12, 1938, and authorized Aprill 22, 1938, according to orders the 72.0cm eagles were for use on wagon (cars) and dehgestellen (revolving coach units). It is constructed out of a cast galvanized aluminum composition that has been black burnished. The obverse features a national eagle with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons. The semi-hollow back reverse features three studs (specific for 72.0cm car eagle) with accompanying nuts. Note the right nut is slightly larger, exactly how it is in the textbook. It is maker marked to the wing: “PS” within a circle (Pinter Schwelm), above “LOK 720” (Lokomotive 72.0cm), above “GAL-Mg-Si” (Galvanized Aluminum, Mg=Magnesium, Si=Silicon). In between the talons it is marked “LOK” (Lokomotive) above “RZA 2” (Reichsbahn-Zentralamt 2) above “BLN” (Berlin). The reverse patina has darkened over time. The previous owner added a wire string for mounting, which can be removed. This is one of the most requested pieces by collectors and most often serves as the centerpiece of their collection.
