Canada, WWII – Five-Piece Medal and Miniature Bars
Canada, WWII - Five Piece Medal Bar. Assembled for a Canadian WWII Volunteer after 1945. The Medal Bar includes: The 1939-1945 Star, The France and Germany Star, The Defense Medal, The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Service Bar and The War Medal 1939-1945. All the of awards are stitched to a medal bar. It measures: 6 3/8 inches wide by 3 15/16 inches tall. Accompanying the Bar is a miniature It measures: 3 1/4 inches wide by 2 1/8 inches tall. The reverse pins work well.
- The 1939-1945 Star. Instituted July 8, 1943, the 1939-1945 Star was awarded for 180 days of operational service or 60 days of operational flying.
- The France and Germany Star. Instituted May 1945, the France and Germany Star was awarded for entry into operational service in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland and Germany between June 6, 1944, and May 8, 1945.
- The Defense Medal. Instituted August 16, 1945, the Defence Medal was usually awarded to Canadians for six months (for both non-operational military and certain types of civilian war) service in Britain between September 3, 1939 and May 8, 1945.
- The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Service Bar. Instituted October 22, 1943, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal was granted to personnel of any rank in the Naval, Military or Air Forces of Canada who voluntarily served on active service from September 3, 1939, to March 1, 1947. The Overseas Bar was awarded for 60 days service outside Canada (Newfoundland counted as outside Canada).
- The War Medal 1939-1945. Instituted August 16, 1945, the War Medal 1939-1945 was awarded to full-time servicemen in the Armed Forces or the Merchant Navy, who had served at least 28 days between September 3, 1939, and September 2, 1945.
