Japan, Edo Period (1615-1868) - Tsuba (鍔) Shakudō (赤銅) - Myojo Kaō marked Sword Guard by the Gotō School. This sword guard is made of patinaed red shakudō with gold inlay. It has an elegant display of a swallows, pine trees along with the moon and clouds. It has a rounded shape (nademaru-gata), a textured random grained nanaku punching surface (nakagoi-ji), an applied shakudō straighted rim (maru-mimi) and a gold inlay (nunome-zogan). It is Myojo Kaō marked to the seppa-dai. There are two hitsu-ana holes. Size: 77.18mm x 80.60, 4.31mm thick, 159g. For use on long sword. Deluxe kiri box and pillow. Stock Nr. #40.
