Japan, Edo Period (1615-1868 AD) - Tsuba (鍔) Shakudō (赤銅) - Sword Guard by the Gotō School. This sword guard is made of blackened shakudō with gold and silver inlay. It elegantly displays a feeding cock and hen. It has a rounded off shape (nademaru-gata), a circular rowed grain nanaku punching surface (nakagoi-ji), an applied gold straighted rim (maru-mimi) and with a gold and silver inlay (nunome-zogan). The reverse shows minor bruises to the nanaku on the right of the kozuka-hitsu-ana. There is a copper filling (suaka sekigane) to the bottom of tang hole (nakago-ana). There are two hitsu-ana holes. Size: 64.10mm x 68.97, 4.19mm thick, 133g. For use on long sword. Deluxe kiri box and pillow included. Stock Nr. #43.
