Japan, Edo Period (c.1700 A.D.) - Tsuba (鍔) Tetsu (鉄) - Iron Plate Sukashi Sword Guard by Chōshū ju Tomo Shige-saku - Chōshū School. This sword guard is made of forged iron with the shiny black patina, Chōshū artists are known for, and gold flecks. It has an elegant display of chrysanthemums, bamboo shoots and oak leaves. It has a round shape (maru-gata), with a polished surface (migaki-ji), an angular rim (kaku-mimi) and gold nunome. It is signed to the left and right of the tang hole (nakago-ana). There is one kogai-hitsu-ana hole. Size: 85.53mm x 85.46mm, 4.10mm thick, 102g. For use on long sword. Deluxe kiri box and pillow. Stock Nr. #29.
