Japan, Muromachi Period (1466-1573 AD) - Ōnin - Heianjō-zōgan Daishō Tsuba by the Kaga Yoshirō School. These sword guards (tsuba 鐔) are made of forged iron (tetsu 鉄) with inlaid brass. The Dai (large): has a polished surface (migaki-ji) with inlaid in brass that shows five petal cherry blossoms (sakura), leaves and tendrils. There are two flowers to the front and one on the reverse. Some brass is missing to the obverse right side. It has the classical four lobed shape (mokkō-gata) with four heart shaped openings (inome) at the indentation points and a slightly rounded rim (kaku-mimi kno-niku). There are two hitsu-ana holes (kogai and kozuka). There are obverse notches around the tang hole (nakago-ana). Size: 76.87mm x 77.03, 4.68mm at rim, 116g. The Sho (small): has a polished surface (migaki-ji) with inlaid in brass that shows five petal clematis flower blossoms, leaves and tendrils. There are two flowers to the front and one on the back. It has the classical four lobed shape (mokkō-gata) with four heart shaped openings (inome) at the indentation points and a slightly rounded rim (kaku-mimi kno-niku). There are two hitsu-ana holes (kogai and kozuka). Size: 71.62mm x 71.35, 4.08mm at rim, 97g. This daisho tsuba is for use on a katana and wakizashi. Deluxe box and pillows. The lid of the box has a split and the base has a broken piece to the rim. Stock Nr. #23.
