M1938 – 2nd Model Kreigsmarine Offizier Dolch für Marinebeamte by WKC (Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie.) of Solingen. Thomas M. Johnson speaks specifically to these administrative examples in Volume I of “German Daggers of World War II - A Photographic Reference”.
The fouled anchor double fullered, double edged blade on this one looks excellent. The stamped knights head “WKC Solingen” maker mark is perfectly executed. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is nice and tight. The blade on this one rates NM. It shows minor scratches and typical wear throughout. The red felt buffer pad remains intact. The hammered scabbard is brass based, silvered and lacquered. 75%+ of the silvering remains. It depicts wonderful details especially with the hand enhancing loops. It has two bumps to the obverse. Both throat retaining screws remain intact. The silvered push button continues to work well and is worn in the expected area. The crossguard and pommel are brass based and silvered. The proudly perched Kriegsmarine eagle pommel is beautifully detailed. The crack and chip-free grip is wood based and covered in white celluloid. The dual brass wire wrap remains tightly intact. All the brass components have been silver washed. When I carefully unscrew the pommel, you can see that each brass component was individually sliver plated. The silver plating is worn in all the expected areas, revealing the underlying brass. In my opinion, the plating was done in the period. These administrative examples are rare in the extreme. This piece comes complete with a portepee and the correct administrative hangers.
