SS 8 Year Long Service Award
Type II - SS-Dienstauszeichnungen 3. Stufe für 8 Jahre. Instituted January 30, 1938, the SS Long Service Award was awarded to all members of the SS who completed 8 years of faithful and impeccable service. Time in the Wehrmacht, the state police and periods in previously recognized voluntary organizations (Freikorps) were also used to calculate the length of service. It is constructed out of a die struck bronze base that has been chemically burnished. The round shaped obverse features two centrally placed SS runes that are surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the bottom and is in front of a stagnant swastika which lies all on a pebbled field. The reverse reads: “Für Treue Dienste in der SS” (For Loyal Service in the SS) and is in front of an “8” and all lies on a pebbled field. To the top is the proper soldered-on loop and tear drop suspension ring. It measures approximately 1 ½ inches in diameter. It comes with approximately 5 ¼ inches of cornflower blue ribbon (1 3/16 inches wide). Included is a COA from Bill Shea.
