Dedicated - M1919 - Ehrenhirschfänger für Forster by ACS - Alexander Copple of Solingen. The 13-inch long, triple etched type blade on this one is really a work of art. The crisp and dark acid etched panels and spine provide a gorgeous display of: a hound chasing foxes in the forest along with two grouse (obverse), three does and a buck in the forest (reverse) and an oak leaf and acorn motif (spine). The spine is also distributor marked: “G. Eckenhoff Nachf. Berling”. The blade is stamped to the reverse with the “ACS” maker mark. The blade rates Exc++/NM. It shows minor oxidization spotting. The tip is dedicated reading: “Ehrenhirschfänger Forstschule Spangenberg 1932” (Honor Hirschfänger Forestry School Spangenberg 1932). The reverse of the top fitting is also dedicated reading: “„Für gute Leistungen.” Gewidmet 1932 vom Verein „Waldheil“, Neudamm” (“For Good Performance” dedicated in 1932 by the “Waldheil” Neudamm Association). The original red felt buffer pad remains intact. The scabbard is made out of a stitched together black leather base with two stapled on brass scalloped fittings. It shows minor scuffs throughout. The reverse of each fitting is numbered “1” underneath the staple. The top obverse fitting features an acorn lug. The lower fitting has a bump and a point to the very bottom. The scabbard sits securely up against the hilt. The langet features a clamshell. The cast brass d-guard hilt has a deer hoof to each end. The grip features two stag horn panels each secured with three acorn grip rivets. The brass has all been gold gilded and beautifully matches in patina. This one comes with a senior forestry knot. A wonderful personalized example!
