Complete - M39 Dolch für Staatsbeamte by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. Approximately 1 in 4 Government Official Daggers were manufactured by the Carl Eickhorn firm. Unlike Puma and Pack who are even rarer, Eickhorn cast their own components. Most consider these to be superior in quality and are thus highly prized by collectors.
The blade on this one is in great condition. The acid etched “Original Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark is dark, crisp and beautifully executed. The crossgrain is stunning, easily visible from the hilt to the tip. It has a perfect tip and solid fit! The blade on this one rates an easy Exc++/NM. There is spotting, age grey and surface scratches throughout. The original leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The steel based and nickel-silver plated scabbard is in wonderful shape. The scabbard body depicts beautiful details with randomly pebbled panels and the two oak leaf and acorn bands. There is the slightest pressure mark to the reverse tip. The two side throat retaining screws remain intact. The scabbard snugly fits up against the hilt. The hilt is all nickel-silver based and plated with a gorgeous aged lacquered finish. The crossguard wonderfully displays a regal eagle with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons. The glamorous eagle head pommel is just as beautiful. The hilt snugly holds together two dark toned mother of pearl grip plates. There is a wee crack underneath the portepee. All of the exterior components match in plating, patina and condition. This one comes with the correct Government Officials Portepee which is smaller than the regular Army size. It is worn to the typical areas and extremely rare. This piece also comes with the correct hangers that are in wonderful condition. All the clips work well. Overall, this is a real beauty that wonderfully features hand-fitted German craftsmanship! One you are sure to be happy with.
