Model 1016 variant - SS-Verfügungstruppe Löwenkopf Off.-Säbel mit Hoheits-Abzeichen by WKC of Solingen. This exact pattern is featured on page 310 of “Exploring The Dress Daggers and Swords of the German SS” by Thomas T. Wittmann. WKC featured a special line of SS swords in their sales catalog. This sword was sold by LTC Thomas M. Johnson on August 1, 1991.
Germany quality at its best. The 31-inch-long plated blade on this one rates Exc++. There is some scuffs toward the tip and a bit of roughness to the lowest "cutting" edge. It is stamped under the obverse languet with the knight’s head “WKC” maker mark. The buffer pad continues to remain intact. The sheet metal based black enamel painted scabbard remains dent-free. It has great paint with typical evidence of wear. This cast nickel-silver hilt is beautifully burnished. It features the green SS eyes. The top is expertly hand chiseled, covering evidence of the through tang. The black bakelite grip and is in perfect shape. It is wrapped with triple nickel-silver wire.
